GETTING AHEAD(ER)

The world of social media is a constantly shifting landscape, and in order to stay ahead of the curve, we often find ourselves needing to tweak some new setting or adopt some new technique every few days.

Well, that time has come again! Twitter recently unveiled a Facebook-like cover image that users can add to their profiles, and if you want to take advantage of it, you will need to know a few things. Thankfully, Solamar is here to help!

Image Size

The first thing you will need to do is design your new header image. A few things to note: the orignal image may not be more than 1252×626 pixels, and the total file size may not be larger than 5MB. Though Twitter has not indicated a minimum size, in our testing it seems that anything less than 640 pixels will look bad.

Type Contrast

In the new layout, your biographical information will appear as an overlay on top of your new header image, in a white font. Because if this, it is important when designing your new header image to avoid using light colors, complex patterns or anything too “busy”, because your info will become illegible.

Multiple Devices

As with most web-related design, it is important to check your new design against multiple mobile devices. Make sure you check your new design in Twitter’s mobiles app to make sure your new design looks good wherever people might be looking at it.
